Ramadan and Eid Ul Fitr 2021

It’s looking like the holy month of Ramadan will begin on Monday 12th April and end on the 11th May. You can view the timetable here. The moon sighting used to calculate the dates was very late this year.

At present it does not look like the Chelmsford Muslim Society plan to use the Hamptons for Ramadan daily prayers or for Eid Ul Fitr (11th May). The new parking restrictions and warnings from the council that daily prayer would need planning permission, may be responsible for this change of heart.

But they have been economical with the truth before, and have never really given residents any of the promised notification when the centre will be used for larger scale prayer.

Some Covid restrictions will still be in force, and any use of Hamptons would be at a reduced socially distanced capacity until 21st June.

But we will remain vigilant, and if you see any unusual activity at Hamptons either early morning or late at night do drop us an email to savethehamptons@hotmail.com

Hidden amongst the prayer timetable you may notice a fundraising appeal for the “New Islamic Centre”, which we assume is Hamptons. The appeal is for funds to “repay debts, create a Wudu/Ghusl area and to carpet the prayer area”.

Clearly those plans are not really off the table then.
