Just Another Night (and day) Of Parking Hell
Part of our campaign to Save The Hamptons is focused on the parking issues and the nightmare that local residents face every week.
The conversion of the Hamptons to a Mosque and Islamic Centre will bring much larger numbers of vehicles , making a bad situation a whole lot worse. Hamptons has just 98 car spaces and this fills very quickly every time there is a function
The location of the Hamptons and it’s poor transport links to the main part of Chelmford means that most centre users drive to the premises. Add a large residential estate and two narrow access roads (too narrow for a Fire appliance), and the problems begin.
Local residents have been raising the issue of parking for years (we have the documents), but have lacked the support and momentum to do much about the issue….until now. We’ve even found reference to this issue in the original planning application consultation from 2007, from senior members of CCC Planning Services. They knew there would be problems before the estate was built ! View the document here (page 4)
why has nothing ever been done about this issue ?
We wrote to all the major stakeholders on the 24/02/20 to suggest that a long term plan is devised and implemented. Story here.

We did call Essex Police, who never attended (crime ref 3/3/20-1054). We did call the Hamptons, who were apologetic but ineffective.
Does someone need to come to serious harm before this issue is addressed ?
We’ve seen today (13/03/20) that our local MP Vicky Ford is supporting a public consultation to change the laws about pavement parking outside London.
Perhaps she can investigate the issue at Hamptons, and present it as evidence during the consultation.
Why not drop her an email to suggest this ? vicky.ford.mp@parliament.uk
